Gang Rape of Teenage Girl in Sampang by 27 Men Draws Parliamentary Attention
A 15-year-old girl in Sampang, Madura, fell victim to rape by 27 men. The case has drawn the attention of legislators at Senayan.
As compiled by detikcom on Sunday (12/7/2026), the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sampang Police, Iptu Nur Fajri Alim, explained that the case came to light after the family sensed something amiss. The victim’s parents felt something was wrong after repeatedly finding their daughter returning home late at night, sometimes close to dawn.
Growing suspicious, the parents pressed the victim with questions. The victim immediately broke down in tears and confessed to the ordeal that had befallen her.
“The family suspected the victim had been raped by several people,” Fajri told detikJatim on Saturday (11/7/2026).
Upon hearing the harrowing confession, the family went straight to Sampang Police Headquarters to file an official report. The family asked law enforcement to thoroughly investigate all the perpetrators involved in the circle of sexual violence.
Sampang Police Chief AKBP Hartono said the incidents befell the victim over a period of four months. The victim’s family only reported the case on 29 June 2026 because the victim was suffering severe trauma.
“The incidents occurred between February 2026 and May 2026, at around 21:00 WIB,” Hartono said at a press conference on Friday (10/7).
To date, the police have secured 12 perpetrators. Meanwhile, the remaining 15 perpetrators are still on the run and being intensively pursued by officers.
Attention from Senayan
The case has drawn sharp scrutiny from members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). Endang Agustina, a member of Commission III of the DPR from the PAN faction, expressed concern over the case of 27 men raping a teenage girl in Sampang.
“Regarding the case of a teenage girl being raped by 27 men in Sampang, Madura, we are deeply concerned and strongly condemn the incident. And I appreciate the swift response of the Sampang Police Chief in promptly handling and processing the case,” Endang told journalists on Sunday (12/7).
Endang said she was furious at the perpetrators for their barbaric acts. She asked the police to handle the case by applying the Sexual Violence Crimes Law (TPKS).
“This is a deeply heartbreaking case — a minor being raped by barbaric men. We certainly trust the investigators to work professionally and adhere to the provisions governing judicial proceedings involving children when the victim is underage, as well as the Sexual Violence Law, which clearly regulates the types of violations,” she said.
“We hope the Police Chief will swiftly endeavour to arrest the perpetrators who have not yet been caught so they can be processed, because they are a danger to the girls out there. And we expect the process to be professional, proportional, transparent and accountable,” she continued.
Meanwhile, Nasyirul Falah Amru, a member of Commission III of the DPR from the PDIP faction, urged the police to promptly arrest the 27 men who raped the girl in Sampang. Falah affirmed that his side was paying close attention and proposed that the case be discussed in a hearing with Commission III of the DPR.
“I hope the police are quick to respond and act faster to arrest the perpetrators who have destroyed the victim’s future,” Falah told journalists on Sunday (12/7).
“If necessary, we will bring this matter to a hearing (RDP) of Commission III of the DPR RI,” he said.
Falah asked that the perpetrators be punished proportionately to serve as a deterrent. He also urged Sampang Police to cooperate with the East Java Regional Police to accelerate the arrest of all perpetrators.
“And certainly, this barbaric act must be punished accordingly so that the perpetrators are deterred and it serves as a lesson going forward,” Falah said.
“If necessary, Sampang Police should coordinate with the East Java Regional Police to hunt down the remaining perpetrators. And I am confident the police can catch these sexual criminals as soon as possible,” he added.
