Gang leader shot to death in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Alleged robbery gang leader, Nipan bin Anang, 50, was shot to death for resisting arrest during a raid at his hiding place in Cibadung village of the Gunung Sindur subdistrict, police said on Tuesday.

"He attacked the officer with a machete. Warning shots were fired but he did not stop and eventually the officer aimed at his body," First Lt. Santun Marpaung said.

"Nipan reportedly died from three gun shot wounds," he added.

He is believed to be the leader of armed robbery group which has been terrorizing residents here for quite sometime.

As of Tuesday police have nabbed the gang members, identified as 18-year-old Yayan bin Nipan, Nipan's son, Utang alias Tatang, 32, Anto bin Madrasimin, 27, and Mulyadi. All are residents of Cibadung village.

Among a series of robberies conducted by the armed gang was the Sept. 21 violent theft in Prumpung Kampong, also in Cibadung village.

"The group has been involved in at least seven robbery and assault cases and they're pretty slick," Santun said.

Police seized two machetes, a knife, masks, two sacks and a water pump from the suspects as evidence.

They were detained at Bogor Police precinct, pending further investigation. (21/edt)
