Gang fights now a trend?
Gang fights now a trend?
From Jayakarta
Gang fights among secondary high school students seem to have
become a trend. The fights go so far that sometimes students
wound and kill their foes.
One day during the month of Ramadhan I saw a group of students
carrying sickles, belts, stones and bamboo ready for a gang
fight.
Security officers do make efforts to control student gang
fights, usually either by persuasion, by instruction (a course at
Condet) or by punishment, particularly for those carrying sharp
weapons.
I have observed that students in general lack courteous
behavior. Students' behavior should not be the sole
responsibility of teachers. Parents have a strategic role in
educating their children.
Factors contributing to student behavior are parents,
teachers, law enforcers, the community and religious dignitaries.
These people should work together to instill discipline and
correct behavior in our youth.
