GAMKI Chairman Who Reported JK to Police is Acting Head of PSI's North Sumatra Branch

Tenth and twelfth Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK) has been reported to the police by several parties over allegations of blasphemy against religion. One of them is Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI), who reported JK to the Metro Jaya Regional Police. The report was filed by GAMKI and several other organisations regarding a lecture delivered by JK at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Mosque on 5 March 2026. In its statement, the GAMKI Central Board quoted JK’s controversial remarks, which touched on conflicts in Poso and Ambon in the early 2000s. “Why does religion easily become a reason for conflict like in Poso and Ambon? Because both Muslims and Christians believe that killing or being killed is martyrdom. During the conflict, both sides held that belief. If I kill a Muslim, I am a martyr. If I die, I am a martyr. As a result, it’s hard to stop,” read JK’s statement contested by the GAMKI Central Board. The report was received and registered under number LP/B/2546/IV/2026/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya on 12 April 2026. Sahat is recorded as serving as GAMKI General Chairman for the 2023-2026 term. He was elected at the XII GAMKI Congress held at the Maranatha Church in Ambon on Friday, 19 May 2023. The man born in Pekanbaru on 1 March 1989 is an alumnus with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Gathered from various sources, Sahat also holds several strategic positions as a commissioner, including at PT Pengembangan Investasi Riau, PT Multi Terminal Indonesia, and PT Pengembang Pelabuhan Indonesia. Meanwhile, in the political arena, Sahat was involved in supporting the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka ticket in the 2024 presidential election. In January 2026, he was then appointed as Acting (Plt) Chairman of the North Sumatra Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (DPW PSI) by the PSI Central Board. The appointment is stipulated in the PSI Central Board Decree Number 857/SK/DPP/2025 on the Revocation of Decree Number 333/SK/DPP/2025 and the Appointment of Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat as Acting Chairman of the North Sumatra Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian Solidarity Party.
