Games preparations behind schedule
BANGKOK (AFP): Several sports complexes being built in Bangkok for the 13th Asian Games in December have fallen behind schedule and may not be finished before the March deadline, reports said yesterday.
Coming after Wednesday's cut in the games' operating budget, the latest news is yet another setback for the event which has been plagued by political wrangling and cost blowouts amid Thailand's economic crisis.
Construction of the shooting complex was only 20 percent complete and unlikely to be finished within the timeframe set by the Thai government, the Bangkok Post reported yesterday.
The subcontractor responsible for building the complex, STN Construction, has run short of money and been forced to stop work for several months.
