Games Federation denies haze reports
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): The Commonwealth Games Federation denied
yesterday that haze threatened this year's competition or that
some of the games would be moved to other countries.
The 26th Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held in Kuala
Lumpur in September, and 67 of the 69 Commonwealth countries have
confirmed they will join the competition.
The chairman of the CGF, Michael Fennell, said in a statement
released here yesterday that despite some media reports, there
was no danger of haze disrupting the games.
Fennell also rebutted reports that there were plans to move
either the games or any particular sports or events to Australia
or to any other country.
