Gamelan festival in Prambanan

SURAKARTA, Central Java: An international festival of gamelan,
or Javanese orchestra, for children will be held at the Prambanan
Temple in December, Rector of the Surakarta School of Art Sri
Hastanto said on Saturday.

"Children from European countries, the United States of
America, Japan, Australia and Indonesia will participate in the
world festival," Hastanto said to Antara.

Puppet master Ki Anom Suroto said gamelan has developed in
some foreign countries.

"I only bring two musical assistants whenever I go abroad for
a puppet show," Anom said, adding that most of the instruments
will be played by local people.(imn)
