Gambling eradication will not be easy
Gambling eradication will not be easy
From Koran Tempo
Former president Abdurrahman Wahid once revealed the presence
of a gambling operation in the Jakarta Bay area. The big casino
was already common knowledge, with some figures managing it and
powerful owners behind it.
To eliminate such big gambling operations will be a very tough
job, considering their connections with various interests of
individuals and authorities. As long as such interests remain
dominant, antigambling raids will only be intense in the
beginning.
After some time, the eradication drive will decline and gaming
centers will again be operating. This situation will normally
coincide with a lack of concern in society. Like a dull TV drama,
nobody will watch anymore.
I only hope that the police will remain motivated to combat
gambling. Let us convince our children and coming generations
that the gambling business is doomed to failure.
