Gamblers busted with FN gun

TANGERANG (JP): Vice squad detectives here apprehended four gambling den operators in Sukabakti village, Curug in an evening raid on Monday.

From the suspects police confiscated an FN .32 pistol together with four bullets, a Wrangler jeep, Rp 1.6 million in cash and 65 bundles of lottery coupons.

Head of the Tangerang Police vice squad, First Sgt. Kustanto, told reporters on Tuesday that the four -- Udin Jaka Zaenal, A. Zaini, Sufi Ridwan, and Ramdani -- were apprehended at 6 p.m. while counting their coupons in their home base.

"The raid was conducted on the basis of a tip-off from local people," he said.

Officer Kustanto, however, did not identify the 'capo' of the gambling organized by the suspects. He only identified the activity as "Toto Singapura" lottery.

The gun, he said, was found by his men in the jeep.

"But all the suspects claimed to have no idea about the gun," Kustanto explained, adding that the case is still being probed.

Gambling and possessing a gun without a permit are both illegal in this country. (41/bsr)
