Galaxy Z Fold8 Sees Sales Boost Following iPhone Duo Debut
Samsung appears to have successfully maintained its spotlight after Apple decided to enter the foldable phone market, as the current generation Galaxy Z Fold8 has experienced a rise in sales following the official debut of the iPhone Duo.
According to a report from Gizmochina on Thursday (17/9), recent sales data from South Korea reveals that Galaxy Z Fold8 sales increased by 10 per cent week-on-week in the period following the public introduction of the iPhone Duo.
This situation is particularly interesting as the iPhone Duo represents a formidable new competitor for Samsung in the foldable segment. Rather than slowing market demand for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Apple’s announcement may have encouraged hesitant buyers to reconsider Samsung’s offering.
The price difference is significant, as Apple’s device is approximately 1.01 million won (around Rp12 million) more expensive. The Galaxy Z Fold8 also holds an advantage in South Korea as it is already available on the market, whereas the iPhone Duo is only scheduled to launch in the same market on 16 October.
Nevertheless, the 10 per cent increase in Samsung’s device sales does not prove that iPhone customers are switching to Samsung. However, the timing is certainly noteworthy. Apple’s announcement provided consumers with detailed insights into its foldable phone, including pricing and launch schedules, which may have led potential buyers to decide that Samsung offers a more practical deal.
In fact, this could make the entire category more attractive while encouraging consumers to compare products more carefully. As the figures from South Korea represent only one market, they cannot yet be considered evidence of a global trend. If both devices demonstrate strong performance worldwide, Apple’s presence may ultimately expand options within the foldable market rather than simply taking market share from Samsung.
