Galaxy Z Flip8 may be Samsung's last flip phone

Samsung is currently preparing its smartphone lineup for release at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2026, including the Galaxy Z Flip8, which, according to the latest reports, could become Samsung’s last flip phone. The news, cited by Gizmochina on Monday (18/5), comes from a Weibo technology leaker named Momentary Digital, who said Samsung may not continue to offer the Galaxy Z Flip line next year. This means there might be no Galaxy Z Flip9 next year, and if the Galaxy Z Flip8 is released this year, the device would be the final flip phone in Samsung’s lineup. There is currently no early information on the prospects for a Galaxy Z Flip9, which raises doubts about the future of foldable smartphones in the flip form factor. There are three factors backing this speculation. First, rising production costs in recent times could deter smartphone makers from manufacturing compact foldables. The other point is that a foldable phone with a wider screen is believed to offer greater productivity opportunities for users, potentially leading to higher revenues. The leaker also touched on the trend of wide-screen foldables, which are increasingly attracting consumer interest, especially after Huawei released the Pura X Max. Many smartphone brands have not yet introduced high-end flip-form foldables. This could indicate a shift in market trends for foldable phones.
