Gajah Mada Plaza Transformation Ready to Embrace Area Development
The transformation of Gajah Mada Plaza into Lippo Icon Gajah Mada is part of the management’s effort to capture the growth potential of commercial activity in the Gajah Mada area of Jakarta. The change coincides with the shopping centre’s 44th anniversary.
This transformation is part of PT Lippo Malls Indonesia’s (LMI) commitment to continuously present shopping centres that are modern, relevant to the area’s development, and aligned with the needs and lifestyles of the community.
The new identity of Lippo Icon Gajah Mada was officially introduced on 20 August 2026 after a thorough renovation process. The new face of Lippo Icon Gajah Mada appears more modern and dynamic, with gold accents that lend an elegant character while reinforcing its identity as a lifestyle destination in the Gajah Mada area.
Tenant rejuvenation is one of the main focuses of this transformation process. Currently, Lippo Icon Gajah Mada has achieved an occupancy rate of around 90 percent, with more than 60 percent of these being new tenants. The available options include culinary, fashion, entertainment, lifestyle, and various daily necessities.
“The transformation into Lippo Icon Gajah Mada is an important moment for us, especially as it coincides with the 44-year journey of Gajah Mada Plaza. Through a comprehensive renovation, the presence of new tenants, and the new Lippo Icon identity, we want to present a more modern and relevant experience for visitors, while preparing Lippo Icon Gajah Mada to be part of the future development of the Gajah Mada area,” said Santiwati Basuki, Chief Marketing Officer of Lippo Malls, in a statement on Thursday (20/8/2026).
The transformation of Lippo Icon Gajah Mada is increasingly strategic amid the planned development of MRT Jakarta Corridor 2, which is expected to connect the Kota area to Ancol Barat through several strategic areas, including Gajah Mada and Harmoni. Lippo Icon Gajah Mada is being prepared to become one of the locations integrated with the development of this corridor.
This improved connectivity is expected to further ease public access while supporting the growth of commercial and lifestyle activities along the corridor. This is in line with the positioning of “The New Lifestyle Icon”, which places Lippo Icon Gajah Mada not only as a shopping and lifestyle destination, but also as a community hub that grows together with the area’s development.
Pahala Situmeang, Mall Director of Gajah Mada Plaza, explained that the transformation of Lippo Icon Gajah Mada is part of the readiness to welcome the development of MRT Jakarta Corridor 2, by presenting a modern lifestyle destination that is easily accessible and integrated with public mobility while supporting the growth of the Gajah Mada area.
