Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday (12/4) that the only way for the United States (US) to find a way out of the current situation is by gaining the trust of the Iranian nation.

Qalibaf made the statement in a speech to reporters en route back to Iran from Pakistan. During the visit, Qalibaf and his accompanying team held peace talks with a US delegation.

“The US owes a debt to the Iranian people and needs to work hard to repay it. If they wage war, we will fight; and if they come with logic, we will respond with logic. We will not surrender to any threats. They can test our resolve again, and we will give them a greater lesson,” Qalibaf said.

Qalibaf described the talks with the US delegation in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, as highly “intense, serious, and challenging”.

He also said that thanks to competent experts and a comprehensive and diverse perspective, the Iranian delegation devised “extraordinary initiatives” to demonstrate Iran’s goodwill, “which resulted in progress in the negotiations”.

“We have announced from the beginning that we do not trust America. This wall of distrust has existed for 77 years. That is because in less than 12 months, they attacked us twice in the midst of the negotiation process. Therefore, it is they who must prove themselves trustworthy,” Qalibaf stated.

Qalibaf dismissed the latest threats from US President Donald Trump against Iran. He said such threats have no impact on the Iranian people.

Delegations from Iran and the US held lengthy negotiations in Islamabad on Saturday (11/4) and Sunday morning (12/4) local time. The talks, which failed to produce an agreement, took place after a ceasefire was announced on Wednesday (8/4) between Iran, the US, and Israel following 40 days of fighting.
