Gaikindo Views B50 Trials Positively, Here's What They Say
Jakarta - The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) assesses the implementation of 50 per cent biodiesel blend, or B50, as having bright prospects. This statement aligns with the initial trial results of the environmentally friendly fuel, which demonstrate performance in line with expectations. “We support the government’s B50 programme, and it has already been carried out. So far, the interim results show quite positive outcomes. Hopefully, this will also serve as a unique alternative, as B50 might be the first of its kind in the world,” said Gaikindo’s General Secretary Kukuh Kumara in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026). According to Kukuh, support for the B50 programme forms part of the automotive industry’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Moreover, amid global uncertainties due to geopolitical dynamics, the national automotive industry could face disruptions from supply chain interruptions, rising logistics costs, and exchange rate fluctuations. Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) confirmed that the initial road trial results of B50 in the automotive sector proceeded according to technical specifications. Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Eniya Listiani Dewi stated that vehicle engine performance using B50 showed no significant issues. “Regarding engine performance, the technical team’s report indicates it meets specifications,” Eniya said. Additionally, important parameters such as water content, monoglyceride levels, and oxidation stability remain within the required limits. In fact, the B50 water content is recorded at a maximum of 300 ppm, lower than the B40 standard of 320 ppm. With these initial results, the implementation of B50 is deemed increasingly ready for wider use in Indonesia.
