GABSI holds Bridge Contest in 23 cities
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Contract Bridge Association (Gabsi), in cooperation with the World Bridge Federation, will hold the annual World Bridge Contest in 23 cities nationwide on Friday, a report said on Thursday.
"The two-day tournament will be held simultaneously across the world," Gabsi's First secretary Bert Toar Polii said in a media statement.
"The tournament is unique because all scores around the world will be assembled at the scoring center in Britain before being calculated and graded."
The tournament here was also meant as an opening event for the 50th anniversary of Gabsi, Polii said.
The tournament, which began in 1986, has been included in the Guinness Book of Records since 1987, mainly in observance of the abundance of its participants. The biggest number of participants was recorded in 1992 when 103,000 players took part.
The sites for the tournament include Jakarta, Medan in North Sumatra, Palembang in South Sumatra, Bandung in West Java, Surabaya in East Java, Denpasar in Bali, Makassar in South Sulawesi and Manado in North Sulawesi.--JP
