The G7 finance ministers and central bank governors have urged Ukraine to implement reforms aimed at combating corruption, upholding the rule of law, and tackling the shadow economy, in a joint statement issued after a meeting in Paris. The statement said: “We urge strong progress by Ukraine in its reform agenda to strengthen the rule of law, public governance, the fight against corruption, and the elimination of shadow practices in the economy.” At the same time, it noted that the G7 would continue to explore various financing options to support Ukraine. “Based on the EU’s €90 billion Ukrainian Support Loan and a commitment that could enable the approval of an IMF programme for Ukraine, we will continue to develop a range of financing options to support Ukraine going forward,” the statement added. On 23 April, EU member states formally approved the €90 billion loan to Ukraine. European Council President Antonio Costa said Ukraine would only be required to repay the loan if it receives compensation payments from Russia.
