Jakarta, VIVA – The Future Dai & Daiyah Championship for the Jakarta Governor’s Cup, a competition for senior high school, vocational school and Islamic school students across DKI Jakarta, has officially been launched as a platform for discovering young talent capable of carrying the light of Islam amidst the dynamics of the capital city. The competition is organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with one.news, and supported by Bank Jakarta and Baznas Bazis Jakarta.

The inaugural audition took place from the morning at the Kendal Tunnel (near the Sudirman commuter rail entrance and Dukuh Atas MRT station) and was attended by more than 200 dai and daiyah participants. The choice of a public space during Car Free Day as the audition venue was described as part of the Islamic outreach effort, whilst also testing participants’ readiness to deliver sermons directly before the public.

In his opening remarks, one.news head Nurjaman Mochtar emphasised that the Car Free Day audition was designed for outreach and the relevance of Islamic preaching in public spaces.

“During the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), preaching was also conducted in various places, including spaces of public activity such as markets,” said Nurjaman.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring participants’ readiness to deliver sermons directly, not only from school podiums but also in public spaces and social media ecosystems.

Support was also expressed by Baznas Bazis Jakarta officials, namely Chairman Akhmad H. Abubakar and Deputy Chairman II Muhammad Bahaudin, who spoke directly and conveyed their appreciation for the event as a platform for nurturing quality young preachers who are relevant to the challenges of the times.

Representing the Head of DKI Jakarta’s Communications, Information and Statistics Agency, Muhammad Sandi Adam described the event as a potential new benchmark for preaching competitions in Jakarta, as well as a means of strengthening the values of Islamic outreach and producing competent, broad-minded preachers with a love for their homeland.

Selection by Four Judges from Religious Institutions and Government

The audition process featured four judges to assess participants’ abilities in terms of content, delivery and readiness to perform in public spaces:

  • Dr Agus Suprayogi, M.Si. (Central Indonesian Ulema Council)
  • H. Herman (Official from the Mental and Spiritual Development Bureau of the Jakarta Provincial Government)
  • Dr Canra Krisna Jaya Lubis, MA (Central Indonesian Ulema Council)
