IOC to lose Xerox after Athens
LAUSANNE, Switzerland: The International Olympic Committee
will lose one its largest commercial sponsorship deals next year
after the Xerox Corporation decided to pull out following the
2004 Olympics in Athens, the IOC said on Tuesday.
The US office equipment giant, one of the top three global
sponsors of the Olympics, will not be renewing its deal with the
IOC when it expires on Dec. 31, 2004, a statement released by the
IOC said.
"While we certainly appreciate the value of this investment
and will leverage it during the Athens Games, Xerox has decided
to refocus its marketing to other customer-facing initiatives,"

Real sweeps on in Spanish Cup
MADRID: David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane were among a clutch
of stars rested as Real Madrid sent out a virtual reserve team to
swamp second division San Sebastian de los Reyes 3-0 on Tuesday
to reach the last 32 of the Spanish Cup.
A Raul lob after 28 minutes set Real on their way and a low
left foot shot from Javier Portillo added to their tally 11
minutes after the break before Estaban Cambiasso completed a
routine win with three minutes remaining.
Barcelona needed a Ronaldinho goal six minutes from time to
see off second division minnows Gramanet 1-0 while Diego
Tristan's solitary strike with eight minutes remaining was enough
to give high-flying Deportivo La Coruna a win by the same
scoreline at second division neighbors Compostela. --AFP
