Fuso on Guard Against Plastic Crisis: National Automotive Industry Prepares
JAKARTA - The fluctuating global economic conditions are beginning to signal caution for the national automotive industry, including the commercial vehicle sector. One issue that has been widely reported recently is the plastic resin crisis. This material is one of the most widely used raw materials in the automotive industry. Aji Jaya, Sales & Marketing Director of PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB), stated that observing the current situation with the global economy, there are several technical issues causing impacts on materials for the automotive industry in both the short and long term. Nevertheless, for the time being, these disruptions are claimed not to have significantly affected the distribution of units to consumers. “But up to now, because this is still new perhaps, meaning it hasn’t been felt yet. But I think if it continues, there will definitely be an impact on production activities. Meaning, there will be increases in raw materials and components,” said Aji to reporters when met at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (Giicomvec) 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026). In response to the potential rise in raw material prices and component supply obstacles, KTB has prepared mitigation steps. Aji added that one of Fuso’s efforts or strategies is to always maintain intensive communication with the principal in Japan. Thus, the principal can also provide support, ensuring smooth supply and availability of spare parts so that production can proceed as planned. This supply certainty is crucial, given that Mitsubishi Fuso plays an important role in supporting logistics and business mobility in Indonesia. The availability of units and after-sales services is the top priority amid global uncertainties. “So, our commitment is to always provide the best to consumers, especially regarding unit availability, after-sales service availability, and so on. With the current situation changes, one of the anticipations is as mentioned earlier,” he said.
