Furukawa to make cable in RI
TOKYO (Dow Jones): Furukawa Electric Co. said Friday that it and Indonesia's P.T. Supreme Cable Manufacturing Corp. have agreed to launch a joint venture in Jakarta to manufacture and sell optical fiber cable in May, to cope with robust demand in Southeast Asia.
The new joint venture, P.T. Furukawa Supreme Optical Cable, will be capitalized at $5.5 million. It will be held 90 percent by Furukawa and 10 percent by Supreme Cable Manufacturing, known as Sucaco. Sucaco is the largest cable manufacturing company in Indonesia, and is 11.8 percent held by Furukawa.
A Furukawa spokesman declined to comment on the new joint venture's specific sales target and production capacity. The joint venture will take over Sucaco's optical fiber-making facilities, he said.
