Furniture export made easy
JAKARTA (JP): Cashing in on the booming imports of Indonesian furniture, a London-based trading company has established a showroom in Semarang, Central Java, to assist British buyers.
Aspen Lander Ltd. has also opened a warehouse which will function as a final quality checking facility and will arrange packing and shipping as well as documentation for buyers, according to Young Editorial Services, the company's public relations representatives.
Other facilities on offer include services to introduce buyers to Indonesian furniture manufacturers, it said.
Furniture is one of the few booming export businesses in crisis-hit Indonesia, and Semarang is a major center where some of the export deals have been conducted with foreign buyers.
Indonesia's furniture exports in 1997 reached $754 million and Britain accounted for $22.8 million, according to official statistics. The export figures for 1998 are not available. (02)
