FurniFair reaps $7.8m

JAKARTA (JP): The national 10-day furniture exhibition, FurniFair 96, which closed yesterday, has resulted in business transactions worth Rp 18 billion (US$7.86 million).

According to a statement issued by the fair's organizing committee, transactions at the fair up its eighth day on Friday were higher than the target of Rp 17.5 billion.

Aris M. of the organizing committee said that, of the transactions, more than Rp 9.2 billion (51 percent) were export transactions made by foreign buyers who visited the fair.

As of Friday, Aris said, 150 foreign buyers had visited the fair, of which 66 percent conducted business transactions.

Participants in the fair included manufacturers from Greater Jakarta, Surabaya in East Java, Jepara and Semarang in Central Java and Bandung in West Java.

The fair was opened on Dec. 8 by Minister of Forestry Djamaludin Suryohadikusumo. (pwn)
