Funding Clusters for 27 August Riots Uncovered; Students Allegedly Commissioned by Legal Entity

Police have uncovered suspected actors who funded the riots on 27 August 2026 in the Jakarta area. Three funding clusters have been identified, with students allegedly involved in these financial networks.

This was stated by the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference on Saturday (12/9/2026). Iman initially revealed the figure JT, who is suspected of being the field coordinator during the 27 August riots, paid protesters Rp 40,000 per person.

“Several suspects in the riots received funding from a field coordinator under the name of Mr JT with an amount of Rp 40,000 per person; subsequently, from JT, orders were placed under the names PKL, KHT (alias HY), and SO,” said Iman.

Iman stated that the authorities are also investigating the ‘intellectual dader’—the party suspected of being the mastermind or architect of the 27 August riots. This intellectual mastermind, he said, is the one who ordered or requested the preparation of the masses.

“Furthermore, we are conducting a deep investigation into the intellectual dader who ordered or requested the preparation of the masses, and the party responsible for providing the funding,” he added.

Suspected Student Involvement

Furthermore, he revealed the second funding cluster for the riots. In this second cluster, a student with the initials ER is suspected of being involved in gathering the crowds.

“In the second cluster, we found findings from a field coordinator named ER; we are also investigating this, where Mr ER is a student at a university in Jakarta who promised or prepared funds of Rp 70,000 per person,” he revealed.

He disclosed that ER received a request to gather a crowd from a certain legal entity. The police are currently continuing their investigation into this matter.

“Where Mr ER received an order from a legal entity that we are currently investigating; that legal entity provided the budget and requested the preparation of people through Mr ER,” he concluded.
