Fund raising turns `profit'

SURABAYA, East Java: Money donated for the victims of tidal
waves in Banyuwangi has reached Rp 4.9 billion (US$2.26 million),
more than the estimated losses of Rp 4.7 billion.

Spokesman for the East Java provincial government Susanto said
that the amount of cash raised by the disaster coordination team
excluded the money directly given to the victims by donators.

He said Rp 23 million in cash from the Osaka administration in
Japan has also reached the area, Antara reported. (par)
