Fund raising

From Media Indonesia

On Jl. Jembatan Besi II, Tambora, a mosque is being built. The construction of this mosque has been going on for a year or so. However, a shortage of funds has made the committee get its people to collect contributions from the community and from passersby by placing charity boxes in front of the construction site. In addition, they have also hung banners on trees and ask for donations from passing motorists and their passengers.

Those collecting funds should stand at the side of the road while asking for funds, not in the middle of it, so that they do not obstruct the traffic and cause traffic jams.

Besides, what is even more disturbing in my opinion (and I believe many other people's too) is the use of an amplifier and a loudspeaker at a high volume.

As a Muslim, I am aware of the need for a mosque as a place of worship. However, should we not consider other people's rights for peace and quiet. There are schools and a maternity hospital near the construction site and, naturally, they need a peaceful atmosphere.

I think they should just try to use banners and other methods that are most acceptable to the general public. The people will show their sympathy and readily offer their contributions.
