Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has outlined the timeline of an alleged corruption case involving prominent cigarette manufacturer PT Djarum.

On Wednesday (28 October 2026), the KPK searched the offices of PT Djarum and the Kudus Intermediate Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC), in Central Java.

CNN Indonesia reported that KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the searches were part of an expansion of an investigation into a case related to Customs and Excise. The KPK had previously investigated alleged corruption within the Customs and Excise Directorate General following a sting operation in February this year.

“The KPK is expanding its investigation into a case related to Customs and Excise, having issued a new investigation warrant in October 2026,” Budi said.

As part of the expanded investigation, investigators searched the Kudus Customs and Excise office and PT Djarum. As of the previous afternoon, Budi said, the searches were still under way.

In its investigation into alleged corruption at Customs and Excise and the sting operation earlier this year, the KPK named seven people as suspects in an alleged bribery case involving the import of goods and the receipt of gratuities.

They are Rizal, former Director of Investigation and Enforcement at the Customs and Excise Directorate General, who served from 2024 to January 2026; and Sisprian Subiaksono, Head of the Directorate’s Intelligence, Enforcement and Investigation Subdirectorate.

The other suspects are Orlando, Head of Intelligence at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise; Andri, Import Documentation Team Leader at PT Blueray; Budiman Bayu Prasojo, an employee of the Directorate General; John Field, owner of PT Blueray; and Dedy Kurniawan, PT Blueray’s Operations Manager.

Some of the suspects have been brought to court and sentenced, while proceedings against others are still under way.

More recently, the KPK issued two new investigation warrants in connection with alleged corruption at the Customs and Excise Directorate General.

One warrant names Gatot Heroe Hernanda, Head of the Kediri Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office, as a suspect. No suspect has yet been named under the other warrant.

Reason for the searches

Asked about the searches of PT Djarum and the Kudus Customs and Excise office, Budi said the initial suspicion in the case concerned state revenue related to excise at PT Djarum.

Investigators are also examining possible kickbacks connected with the processing of excise stamps. The KPK is looking into other possible methods as well.

“Everything is still being examined. First, this is still at an early stage. Second, we are investigating whether there may have been kickbacks or alleged payments by PT Djarum to officials at Customs and Excise in connection with the excise stamps affixed to each pack of cigarettes, or whether other methods were used,” he said, as quoted by Detik.

Budi added that investigators had seized documents and electronic evidence. The documents will be analysed further.

PT Djarum’s management has responded to the KPK searches. Corporate Communications Manager Budi Darmawan told CNBC Indonesia that the company was unaware of the details of the case.

He said, however, that PT Djarum would co-operate. “We respect and comply with the law,” Budi said.
