Full Schedule for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day Ceremony at the State Palace

The 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia ceremony will be held today, 17 August 2026. The event is held annually as a commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day.

The government will hold the 81st Independence Day ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta. The ceremony will be conducted twice: the Commemoration of the Proclamation Seconds of Indonesian Independence at 10.00 WIB and the Lowering of the Red and White Flag at 17.00 WIB.

Guidelines for the implementation of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day commemoration in 2026 refer to Circular Letter of the Minister of State Secretary Number B-13/M/S/TU.00.03/08/2026.

The President will act as inspector of the ceremony. Invited guests include leaders of state institutions, the acting governor of Bank Indonesia, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, the attorney general, the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and the chief of the National Police.

Also present will be ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of friendly countries in Jakarta, other invited guests, and members of the public.

All ceremony participants must wear the prescribed attire. Men are required to wear beskap, teluk belanga, or PSL with a touch of Nusantara fabric. Women must wear traditional Nusantara attire with red and white accents.

For military and police personnel, the attire worn during the ceremony is the ceremonial service uniform. Central and regional government agencies will hold ceremonies offline at their respective offices at 07.00 WIB.

The government urges the Indonesian public to pause their activities for a moment on 17 August 2026, from 10.17 to 10.20 WIB.

During that time, the government asks everyone to stand upright while the national anthem Indonesia Raya is played and the Red and White Flag is raised in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace.

Exceptions to the brief pause apply to members of the public whose activities could endanger themselves or others if stopped, including essential public services that cannot be left unattended.
