The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) has disclosed a provisional chronology relating to the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL Commuter Line on the Kampung Bandan-Cikarang route at Bekasi Timur Station on 27 April.

KNKT chairman Soerjanto Tjahjono said the chronology report, prepared with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, remains provisional as investigations continue. ‘We are still conducting investigations and studies. If we draw conclusions about the causes, it is still too early. We need more time to evaluate; there are data we still need to process to complete these data,’ he told reporters at the DPR building on Thursday (21 May 2026).

Provisional chronology: The Argo Bromo Anggrek driver said he had begun braking from a distance of 1.3 km after receiving information that there was a KRL ahead. The driver had attempted to brake. But at Pusdal (Control Center) they did not know the actual conditions around Bekasi Timur Station, because communications are through voice via the cabin radio. So Pusdal did not know the actual conditions; they only informed that there was a KRL ahead, and the driver had tried to brake, he explained.

Soerjanto hopes the investigation proceeds smoothly so that the final results can be disclosed in two to three months. ‘We hope that if all processes go smoothly, within 2-3 months, hopefully we can complete it,’ he concluded.
