JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman has officially formed an Ethics Council to try the inactive Ombudsman Chairman Hery Susanto after his arrest in an alleged nickel corruption case.

The formation of this ethics council is based on the Chairman of ORI Regulation Number 73 of 2026 concerning the Establishment of the Ethics Council in the Context of Examining Alleged Violations of the Code of Ethics for the Chairman of the Republic of Indonesia Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 period, Hery Susanto.

“The decision to form the Ethics Council was taken during the Plenary Meeting of the Ombudsman Republic of Indonesia Leadership, conducted based on ORI Regulation Number 40 of 2019 on the code of ethics and code of conduct for Ombudsman personnel,” said Deputy Chairman of the Ombudsman, Rahmadi Indra Tektona, during a press conference at the Ombudsman office in Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026).

Three individuals from the public figures are former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Professor Bagir Manan, former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Professor Jimly Asshiddiqie, and Principal Researcher in Politics at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Professor Siti Zuhro.

Two individuals from Ombudsman members are Maneger Nasution and Partono Samino.

“This step is a manifestation and strong determination of ours to continue enforcing the code of ethics and code of conduct for all Ombudsman personnel without exception,” he stated.

According to Jimly, the council will listen to statements from all parties, starting from the Attorney General’s Office, the Selection Committee (Pansel), and the DPR.

“We will hear everything, then parties with interests, possibly also from the Attorney General’s Office, and for example the Pansel.

Previously there was a Pansel and the selection process in the DPR, so we will also hear various relevant parties as necessary,” he said.

Nevertheless, he stated that the ethics council must hear statements from related parties before imposing sanctions.

“But don’t rush it. We must hear the concerned party, in accordance with the principle of justice. In line with the principle of Audi et alteram partem, we must hear all parties first,” he remarked.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) of the Republic of Indonesia arrested and named Hery Susanto as a suspect in a corruption case involving the governance of nickel mining business in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).
