The Yogyakarta City Police (Polresta Jogja) have successfully apprehended one of the fugitives in the murder case of a student with the initials AA (18) near SMAN 3 Jogja. The arrested fugitive is the mastermind behind the escape of the six other perpetrators, a man with the initials SR (19).

Head of Criminal Investigation at Polresta Jogja, Commissioner Riski Adrian, stated that SR, also known as Tian, was detained two days ago at a friend’s house in Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta city.

“It turns out Tian moved residences every three days. At the time of the arrest, Tian had only been at his friend’s house for three days; indeed, he moved every three days to evade officers,” Adrian said following a reconstruction of the Little Aresha Daycare case on Tuesday (9/6/2026).

“And from the beginning of the incident until his capture yesterday, the individual never returned to his own home,” he continued.

Adrian explained that in this case, SR acted as the person who facilitated or transported the suspects to Cilacap, Central Java. SR is an alumnus of the suspects’ school and a member of the same gang as the suspects.

“The role of this individual is that the three suspects we initially arrested did not know the people in Cilacap. Tian was the connector,” Adrian revealed.

“According to Tian’s confession, one of the people in Cilacap had previously visited Jogja, had hung out in Jogja, and had met Tian, which is how they knew each other. They had a kopdar (meet-up) together,” he added.

As for the car SR used to take the suspects to Cilacap, Adrian said it was a rental car. The vehicle has now been seized by the police.

“We are currently investigating this further, specifically the source of the suspects’ operational funds, who financed them, or whether they collected money among themselves out of solidarity. This is what we are looking into,” Adrian stated.

Adrian further noted that SR is also a repeat offender in a similar case. However, the previous case was resolved through restorative justice.

“Tian has been convicted in court several times. Just last month, he did the same thing, but he was an accessory, and at that time it was resolved through restorative justice. Yet he committed this act again. He is indeed a recidivist,” he explained.

SR is one of four perpetrators on the Wanted Persons List. The three other murder suspects are still being pursued.

As previously reported, AA was found dead near SMAN 3 Jogja on Sunday (17/5). He died from slash wounds after encountering six gang members near the location.

Police have already detained three suspects in the case. Those arrested are LTF (18), also known as Lupek, a resident of Gondokusuman; YSF (18), also known as Ucup, a resident of Mlati, Sleman; and one minor with the initials F (17), a resident of Sleman who acted as the motorcycle rider during the incident.

Meanwhile, the three murder perpetrators and one person who provided a safe house for the perpetrators are still being pursued. Of these four individuals, one is the mastermind behind the escape of the six other perpetrators, the man with the initials SR.

Examinations of the three arrested perpetrators also revealed that SR prepared the house used as a hiding place for the perpetrators.

“And the individual prepared the house there. Because he knew the people there, the one who owned the house that assisted in hiding them,” Adrian said on Monday (1/6/2026).

At that time, Adrian stated that police were still hunting SR, who is believed to have played a significant role in aiding the perpetrators’ flight to Cilacap. Investigators are also still examining SR’s relationship with another group located at the perpetrators’ hiding place.

“Perhaps later, once we have made the arrest or the individual surrenders, we will be able to uncover what his relationship is with the group in Cilacap,” he asserted.
