Fugitive Taufik Hidayat's Trail: Moved Every Hour, Fled to Tangerang

Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the sadistic confinement and torture of a woman with the initials YTR (29), was successfully arrested by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police at a housing estate in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6) at 18.30 WIB. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that the suspect had moved locations repeatedly after becoming a police fugitive. “His flight took him to Tangerang. There he was confused and felt unsafe, then returned to West Java. He was afraid, suspicious of everyone, did not know where to go, until he finally reached Majalaya and was caught,” Rudi said in Bandung on Tuesday evening. According to him, the suspect’s whereabouts were successfully traced after investigators tracked a number of activities and transactions made during his flight. “Based on his confession, he was arrested at a friend’s house. He admitted that it was the place he was heading to. We had been following him since this morning. This morning he also made several transactions that became clues for us until we finally managed to arrest him,” he said. Rudi emphasised that Taufik fled alone without assistance from other parties. “He ran on his own, there was no help from anyone else,” he stated. After his arrest, the suspect was initially secured at Majalaya Police Station before being taken to the West Java Regional Police headquarters for further examination. Previously, West Java Police Public Relations Head Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan said Taufik Hidayat was very adept at hiding before finally being caught. Taufik was arrested in the Majalaya area, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (23/6). “He moved every hour, but still around Greater Bandung,” Hendra told CNNIndonesia.com. YTR is believed to have been abused and confined by her boyfriend Taufik Hidayat for three years in his rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, West Java. The 29-year-old woman suffered severe injuries, including being unable to see normally, a cleft lip, difficulty speaking, and being unable to walk. The alleged abuse case was reported by the family to the West Java Regional Police on Friday, 12 June 2026. The victim’s sister, Melanie Silviani, said the victim is still receiving intensive care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung City. A member of House of Representatives Commission VIII, Atalia Praratya, revealed the condition of YTR, the victim of confinement and abuse by her boyfriend Taufik Hidayat in Bandung Regency, West Java. Atalia said she had visited and felt sad seeing the victim’s condition. According to her, the victim’s facial structure is damaged and she has even lost her sight. “The victim’s facial structure is severely damaged, she has lost her sight, and suffered serious injuries due to cruel violence during three years of confinement,” Atalia said when contacted.
