Fugitive killed by mob
JAKARTA (JP): A man wanted by the Palembang police in South Sumatra has been killed by a mob in North Jakarta, for killing a local resident.
North Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Rismawan said yesterday that Efendi, alias Beny, 25, was mobbed Monday by local residents, in revenge for the death of Fuad Salim.
Rismawan said Efendi, alias Beny, killed Fuad at a drink stall Saturday following a heated quarrel.
Efendi, a newcomer to the area, was hidden by a local resident after the murder.
On Monday, while he was at a drink stall, the residents attacked and killed him.
"No one has been detained," Rismawan said. He confirmed the Palembang police had wanted Efendi for a number of crimes.
Efendi's body, with severe stab wounds, is in the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital's morgue. (04/sur)
