Fugitive in Rp 4.5 Billion Fictitious Credit Case Surrenders After Four Years on the Run

Liem Susilowati, a convicted criminal in a fictitious credit corruption case worth Rp 4.5 billion at a state-owned bank, surrendered to the executing prosecutor of the Surabaya District Prosecutor’s Office after four years on the run. Liem appeared exhausted as she gave herself up. Liem, who had been a fugitive since 2022, decided to surrender to the Surabaya District Prosecutor’s Office on Friday (19/6/2026) at around 16.30 WIB. Liem Susilowati is the younger sister of Liauw Inggarwati, another convict in a similar case, who was arrested earlier along with her son, Bastian Widjaja, by the Fugitive Arrest Team of the Surabaya District Prosecutor’s Office on 2 June 2026. The Head of the Intelligence Section at the Surabaya District Prosecutor’s Office, Putu Arya Wibisana, revealed that during her time as a fugitive, Liem hid in a place of worship in Surabaya and changed her profession to become a priest. However, the arrest of her sister and nephew a few weeks earlier triggered a psychological domino effect on her. ‘After learning that her sister and nephew had been arrested, the convict became fearful, confused, and unable to sleep. These reasons ultimately led her to decide to surrender,’ said Putu Arya in an official statement. Overcome by severe stress and exhaustion from hiding, Liem finally decided to leave the place of worship. On Friday (19/6/2026) afternoon, at 16.30 WIB, she walked wearily to the Surabaya District Prosecutor’s Office to voluntarily surrender to the executing prosecutor. Previously, in a trial held in absentia, the panel of judges at the Surabaya Corruption Court declared Liem Susilowati legally and convincingly proven to have committed corruption. She was sentenced to eight years in prison. In this fictitious credit case, Liem carried out her actions together with four other convicts who have all now been executed, namely Liauw Inggarwati, Bastian Widjaja, Wonggo Prayitno, and Arya Lelana. After surrendering, the executing prosecutor immediately placed Liem Susilowati in the Surabaya Women’s Correctional Facility in Porong, Sidoarjo, to serve her criminal sentence.
