Fugitive gunned down in Banyumas

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: A fugitive from the Nusakambangan penitentiary was gunned down by Banyumas Police on Friday.

The fugitive, identified as Muyi, 31, was shot in both legs and in the chest.

Muyi, who was jailed for his involvement of various crimes, including robbery, rape and drug trafficking, escaped from the prison over two months ago, Antara reported.

The shooting started when Muyi was spotted selling a television set to a local resident in Purwokerto. Police officers had immediately gone after him following a tip-off from the public.

As Muyi would not heed warning shots by the officers, he was shot in the left leg. Then, because he still continued to run away, he was shot in the right leg.

Muyi, still refusing to surrender, was then shot in the chest. He died on the way to the hospital after being interrogated.
