Fugitive for four years, child rape convict arrested in Aceh Besar
The fugitive arrest team of the Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Aceh) has arrested a child rape convict who had been on the wanted list (DPO) of the Aceh Besar District Prosecutor’s Office since November 2022.
Head of Legal Information and Public Relations of Kejati Aceh, Ali Rasab Lubis, said in Banda Aceh on Tuesday that the convict, identified by the initials MY (22), is a resident of Kuta Baro Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency.
“Convict MY was arrested at a house in Gampong Tungkop, Darussalam Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency, on Tuesday at around 11.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. The convict has been on the Aceh Besar District Prosecutor’s Office wanted list since November 2022,” he said.
Ali said the team fired warning shots into the air because MY resisted and fled when he was about to be arrested.
MY escaped through a window of the house and was chased for up to one kilometre before finally being caught.
“The fugitive arrest team, or Tabur, of the Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office was ultimately able to capture MY without causing any loss of life,” he said.
MY was sentenced to 80 months’ imprisonment after being found guilty of committing the crime of child rape based on Jantho Sharia Court Decision Number 1/JN.Anak/2022/MS.Jth dated 31 May 2022.
While serving his sentence, MY escaped from the Class II Banda Aceh Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) on 6 June 2022. At that time, MY was still 16 years old.
The Aceh Besar District Prosecutor’s Office then placed MY on the wanted list and requested assistance from the Tabur team of the Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office to locate the convict. The team subsequently tracked MY’s whereabouts.
“Search efforts continued through intelligence activities. The Tabur team also received information that the convict fled abroad in 2023,” said Ali.
In May 2026, he said, the Tabur team of the Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office received information that the convict was in Gampong Cucum, Kuta Baro Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency.
The team then attempted to arrest MY, but the convict managed to escape again.
“Subsequently, the team again received information that MY was in Gampong Tungkop, Darussalam Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency on Tuesday. The team was finally able to capture MY, although he put up resistance when he was about to be arrested,” he said.
Ali said the Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office is committed to ensuring that every court ruling that has permanent legal force is carried out in order to provide legal certainty and a sense of justice to the public.
The Aceh High Prosecutor’s Office also urged convicts and suspects on the wanted list to surrender immediately to account for their actions in accordance with the law.
“There is no safe place for fugitives. The Prosecutor’s Office will continue to track, search for, and arrest all wanted persons who are still trying to evade the legal process. The arrest of wanted persons is to provide legal certainty for the public,” said Ali.
