An aircraft suspected of carrying fuel was reported to have crashed in the hilly area of Krayan, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan. Thick black smoke was seen rising high from behind the hills.

As reported on Thursday (19 February 2026), dense smoke emerged from the direction of the hills along the flight path of aircraft using Yuvai Semaring Airport in Long Bawan. The aircraft believed to have crashed had just completed a fuel delivery to Yuvai Semaring Airport.

Weather conditions in Krayan were overcast and dark at the time. An eyewitness at the scene, identified as Aboy, said he saw the aircraft rolling unsteadily.

“I was the one who saw the aircraft go down. The plane was flying and was about to turn left. What I saw was that part of the aircraft came loose and flew off, followed by the plane rolling,” Aboy said.

Aboy said thick black smoke began to emerge from the crash site. He noted that the smoke only appeared several minutes after impact.

“After it went down there was no immediate sign of an explosion, fire or smoke, but after a few minutes thick black smoke followed,” he said.
