Fuel Tanker Crash: Sulawesi Tenggara Provincial Government Delegation Involved in a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Buton

A convoy of vehicles from the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov Sultra) was involved in a string of traffic accidents in Buton Regency. One of the vehicles in the convoy collided with a fuel tanker.

‘Yes, the convoy belonged to Pemprov Sultra. The driver and three passengers were taken to hospital,’ said Iptu Arifuddin, Head of Traffic Police at Buton Police, quoted by detikSulsel on Thursday (5 March 2026).

The crash occurred on the Kapontori–Baubau main road, precisely at Desa Kamelanta, Kapontori District, on Thursday (5/3) around 11:30 WITA. The incident involved three vehicles colliding on that stretch of road.

The crash involved two Pemprov Sultra vehicles: a Toyota Rush and a Mitsubishi Pajero. It occurred when one of the vehicles struck a fuel tanker.

‘The Toyota Rush was moving from Kapontori toward Baubau, followed by the Mitsubishi Pajero behind it,’ he said.

As the vehicles passed the scene, the Toyota Rush allegedly veered out of its lane to the right on a straight road with a slight bend. From the opposite direction, a fuel tanker was approaching heading to Kapontori.

The accident left four people injured. Among them, the Toyota Rush driver, Fendy Wahyudi, sustained a laceration to the right cheek and chest contusion. The victim was initially taken to a community health clinic and then referred to Siloam Baubau Hospital.

Additionally, three passengers of the Toyota Rush were injured: Usnia (53), Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Library and Archives Office; Indri Nopriani (42); and La Ode Chairul Ulum (47). The three were immediately taken to Siloam Baubau Hospital for treatment.
