Fuel shortage in Karimun
Fuel shortage in Karimun
PEKANBARU, Riau: Tanjung Balai in Karimun, the Riau Islands,
has been short of fuel for the past two days, pushing premium
gasoline prices up Rp 10,000 (US$1) a liter on Saturday.
Widespread rumors in the area that the government would soon
raise fuel prices again, meant some distributors were stockpiling
fuel in the Karimun region, compounding the situation, an
official said.
Tourist car rental prices also rose from the previous Rp
100,000 to Rp 200,000 for a single trip.
There are no gas stations in Tanjung Balai, forcing traders to
buy fuel from Sambu Island about 60 k.m. from the area. -- Antara
