Fuel Prices Unchanged from April 2026, Pertamina to Cover Difference Temporarily

The government is holding fuel prices steady from 1 April 2026 amid fluctuations in global oil prices. This policy requires PT Pertamina (Persero) to temporarily cover the difference between the selling price and the economic price of non-subsidised fuel. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that this step is feasible due to Pertamina’s currently strong financial condition, in line with the smooth payment of subsidies and energy compensation from the government. “For now, it seems Pertamina will cover it. It is able because the payments from the government are now running smoothly; we pay 70 percent of the compensation every month continuously,” Purbaya said at Wisma Danantara on Wednesday (1/4/2026). However, Purbaya emphasised that this scheme is temporary. Further policies, including possible price adjustments or additional fiscal support, will be discussed with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). On the other hand, the government is also preparing a fiscal buffer to maintain energy price stability. Purbaya mentioned that the additional budget for fuel subsidies is estimated to be in the range of Rp90 trillion to Rp100 trillion. “Rp90-100 trillion, that’s the subsidy. Other compensation will be calculated later,” he said. Purbaya assured that fiscal space is still adequate to cushion this pressure. Even assuming oil prices reach $100 per barrel, the state budget deficit can still be kept below the safe limit. “Even with an average of $100, the deficit remains below 3 percent, around 2.9 percent,” he stated. Currently, global oil prices are around $70 per barrel, with an average of about $76-77 per barrel, so the pressure on the state budget is still considered manageable. “Pertamina Patra Niaga consistently implements government policies, including in the determination of fuel prices,” said Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Roberth MV, in an official statement. The fuel prices in the Jabodetabek, Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions from 1 April 2026 are as follows:
