Fuel Prices Keep Rising, Trump Orders Investigation

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered the Department of Justice (DoJ) to investigate oil companies over high petrol prices. “Big oil companies are not lowering prices at the pump in proportion to the sharp drop in the price of oil they pay. Those prices have come down very fast! In other words, consumers are being ‘squeezed’,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “I have instructed the DoJ to immediately begin investigating this. Petrol prices should be falling much faster than what I am seeing right now!” he added. Previously on Tuesday (23/6), Trump said the national average petrol price had fallen by 0.60 US dollars (approximately Rp10,771.8) per gallon compared to some time ago. Last week, the average petrol price in the United States dropped below 4 US dollars (approximately Rp71,876) per gallon for the first time since March. The decline occurred after the United States and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding to end the conflict between the two countries and restore shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
