Fuel price hikes

From Warta Kota

Since Oct. 1 the price of fuel has been increased. Jakarta residents, especially the needy, can do nothing but accept these hikes. I think this submissive attitude tends to reflect their powerlessness brought on by the multidimensional crisis.

An economist has said the government never learns from the facts. Businesspeople cash in on fuel hikes to raise the prices of basic daily needs. This is a fact that can never be controlled by the government.

It is, however, the law of nature that even the weakest man will rise if he can no longer endure his sufferings. The government's main goal of reducing fuel subsidies by raising fuel prices needs to be questioned. To whom will the subsidy reduction be given? The needy will only get the smallest bit. They will bear the brunt of the fuel price hikes as basic daily needs also increase in price.
