Fuel Price Hike Prompts DPR Member to Urge Government to Prevent Spillover to Essential Goods

JAKARTA - A member of the DPR RI Commission VI, Rivqy Abdul Halim, has urged the government to ensure that the increase in several types of fuel oil (BBM) does not spill over to the prices of essential commodities. He stated that the stability of food prices, particularly basic necessities, must still be maintained. Moreover, the current price adjustment only affects high Research Octane Number (RON) BBM types, so it does not directly trigger a surge in the prices of basic necessities. He does not deny that the fuel price increase could feel sudden to the public. However, this decision is an unavoidable step amid uncertain geopolitical conditions and pressures on the energy sector. Nevertheless, according to him, this policy still needs to be communicated to avoid causing public anxiety. “We ask the government to explain comprehensively the actual condition of our BBM sector at present,” he continued. In addition, Rivqy also highlighted the need for clear anticipatory measures, especially from the government and related state-owned energy enterprises, in maintaining the stability of energy supply and prices going forward. According to him, the readiness of strategies, including the management of distribution and energy reserves, must be ensured to run optimally. “This is important so that the public not only accepts the policy but also understands its urgency,” Rivqy explained. For information, PT Pertamina (Persero) has finally raised the prices of several non-subsidised BBMs as of Saturday (18/4/2026). Based on the BBM price information on the Mypertamina website, the price of Pertamax Turbo BBM with RON 98 has surged sharply from Rp13,100 per litre to Rp19,400 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of Pertamax with RON 92 remains at Rp12,300 per litre. The price of Pertalite BBM remains at Rp10,000 per litre. The same applies to Pertamina Biosolar, which is still priced at Rp6,800 per litre.
