Fuel Price Hike Concerns Spark Interest in Used Electric Vehicles
JAKARTA – Rumours of rising fuel prices due to conflicts in the Middle East have temporarily drawn attention to the automotive market, including the used electric vehicle segment.
However, the impact in Indonesia is considered not yet significant. This is because the government has not raised fuel prices to date, leading consumers to remain cautious.
Daniel Libianto from the used car dealer Victory 88 Autocar stated that interest in used electric vehicles saw a temporary increase when discussions of fuel price hikes emerged.
“Indonesia hasn’t raised fuel prices, so it hasn’t had much effect; most buyers are still taking a wait-and-see approach,” Daniel told Kompas.com on Monday (13/4/2026).
“When the government hadn’t yet decided not to raise fuel prices, the market for electric vehicles was somewhat lively, especially those under Rp 250 million,” he added.
However, overall, prices for used electric vehicles are currently stable. There has been no significant surge, unlike what typically happens with other commodities when fuel issues arise.
“There hasn’t been any increase, just stability. Electric vehicle prices usually plummet anyway,” Daniel said.
For popular models, Daniel mentioned the Wuling Air EV Long Range as one that is quite sought after. 2023 units are currently marketed around Rp 140 million.
In agreement, Andi, owner of the Jordy Motor showroom at MGK Kemayoran in Central Jakarta, also observed some influence from the fuel price rumours on consumer interest, though not substantial.
“There is an effect, but not much, around 20 percent,” said Andi.
He noted that some used electric vehicle models currently in demand include the Wuling Bingo EV and BYD Atto 1.
However, without an official fuel price increase, the market tends to move normally. Consumers are still considering various other factors, such as resale value and battery durability.
Under these conditions, the used electric vehicle market remains in a stable phase, awaiting future energy policy developments.
