Indonesia’s inflation rate in April 2026 reached 0.28% month-to-month (mtm), an increase from the 0.13% recorded in April 2025. The highest inflationary component was found within the transport expenditure group during this period.

Pudji Ismartini, the Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS (Statistics Indonesia), stated that inflation for the transport group reached 0.61%, contributing 0.07% to the overall rate. Speaking at a press conference at the BPS Headquarters in Jakarta, Pudji noted that this transport inflation was significantly higher than other expenditure groups, such as food, beverages, and tobacco, which saw 0.39% inflation with a 0.12% contribution, and the information, communication, and financial services group, which recorded 0.45% inflation with a 0.03% contribution.

Pudji explained that the surge in the transport sector was driven by several commodities: petrol prices rose by 0.49% (0.02% contribution), airfares increased by 2.75% (0.02% contribution), and engine lubricants rose by 3.85% (0.01% contribution). Additionally, diesel faced inflationary pressure of 4.22% (0.01% contribution), while vehicle maintenance and servicing costs rose by 0.70% (0.01% contribution).

“This occurred alongside rising prices for several types of non-subsidised fuel and the price of aviation fuel (avtur),” Pudji added.
