Fuel Mixed with Water at Bekasi Petrol Station, Source Suspected from Tap Water
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The supervisor of a Petrol Station (SPBU) in East Bekasi, Ragil Pambudi, suspects that water mixed with fuel originated from tap water.
“Initial suspicion is that it could be tap water or water from the surrounding area, because there is a building next to the location at a higher position. However, this is still speculation and cannot be confirmed yet,” Ragil Pambudi told journalists on Sunday (1/3/2026).
Ragil affirmed that the petrol station had taken responsibility for the incident.
Currently, the petrol station is still conducting an investigation to establish the timeline and determine the exact cause of water contamination in the fuel.
The station has also opened a complaints centre for customers who feel aggrieved to report the incident.
Earlier, several motorcyclists in Bekasi City complained that their motorcycles stalled immediately after refuelling at a Pertamina petrol station in East Bekasi.
The station management acknowledged the water contamination in the fuel and apologised to consumers.
The complaints became widely discussed on social media after the Threads account @pujiestia uploaded a video showing a motorcycle fuel tank being drained and releasing a whitish liquid suspected to be water-contaminated fuel.
Pertamina subsequently announced that Pertalite distribution at the station had been suspended temporarily.
