Fuel Consumption During Eid Holidays Predicted to Rise 12 Per Cent
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) predicts consumption of petrol and aviation fuel (avtur) will increase during the exodus and Eid holiday period in 2026 compared to normal conditions. On regular days, average fuel consumption in Indonesia reaches 1.6 million barrels per day or 227,335 kilolitres.
Petrol consumption is projected to rise approximately 12 per cent, while avtur increases by 2.8 per cent. Additionally, kerosene usage is estimated to increase by 4.2 per cent. Despite the rise in demand, the government ensures the supply of all fuel types remains secure.
The head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Sector Ramadan and Eid Task Force, Erika Retnowati, stated that the government and energy companies have prepared anticipatory measures to maintain energy supply security during Ramadan through Eid. “The forecast for LPG stock security is in good condition and will be maintained stable during the Ramadan and Eid holiday period,” Erika said during a press conference at the BPH Migas office in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
To support energy needs during the holiday exodus and return period, Pertamina has mobilised various distribution infrastructure, including 40 LPG terminals, 757 bulk LPG filling stations (SPBE), and 6,662 LPG agents throughout Indonesia.
On the other hand, diesel consumption is estimated to fall approximately 14.5 per cent compared to normal day consumption. This decrease, according to Erika, is in line with reduced logistics and goods transportation activities during the Eid holiday period.
Meanwhile, LPG distribution during the Ramadan–Eid command post period is projected to increase approximately 4 per cent compared to average normal distribution. The government also ensures readiness of LPG agents and depots operating 24-hour standby, particularly in high-demand areas.
In the natural gas sector, Pertamina’s gas subholding through the PGN Group ensures gas distribution remains reliable and safe. The company supplies gas to more than 3,290 commercial and industrial customers, more than 2,900 small customers, approximately 818,000 household connections, and more than nine power plants including the PLN Group.
This distribution is supported by infrastructure comprising 33,400 kilometres of integrated gas pipeline networks, 13 gas fuel filling stations (SPBG), three mobile regasification units (MRU), and three LNG terminals distributed across 18 provinces and 74 districts/cities.
“The gas trading volume during the Ramadan and Eid holiday period this year is estimated to fall approximately 4.8 per cent compared to actual results in the same period in 2025,” Erika said.
