Fruit Vendor Who Molested Elementary Schoolgirl in West Jakarta Has Been Acting Since 2022

JAKARTA, Kompas.com — Police have finally disclosed the results of their examination of S (50), a fruit vendor who sexually abused a primary school pupil in the Jalan Guji Baru area, Duri Kepa, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. The head of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Public Protection and Crime Unit (PPA-PPO) Kompol Nunu Suparmi said the victim, a 10-year-old girl, was S’s neighbour and the alleged abuse dates back to 2022. ‘That person has been arrested and processed. Yes, (it is proven) that he committed sexual abuse,’ Nunu told Kompas.com in a brief message on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. According to the perpetrator’s confession, the acts began around 2022 and continued until around March 2026, with a total of about four incidents at various locations, he said. Nunu confirmed that S is a fruit vendor who is also active as a Qur’anic teacher in the locality. The victim is known to have known the offender since she was five years old, in 2021. Because of the investigation and work demands, the child’s parents often returned home late and had to entrust their child to the offender. To facilitate and conceal his depraved acts, S would frequently offer pocket money and food to the victim. ‘The modus operandi was that (the offender) would often give the victim Rp 5,000 to Rp 10,000 and snacks to the victim,’ Nunu said. Nunu noted that the child, still young, bore the trauma alone, shrouded by fear and not knowing how to respond. ‘The family did not know directly from the victim, because the victim was scared and did not dare to tell,’ he added.
