From Warteg to Flower Shops Demolished: Illegal Structures Along UI Access Road in Depok Cleared
Depok’s Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) cleared street vendors (PKL) and illegal buildings along Jalan Akses UI in Pondok Cina Ward, Beji Subdistrict, on Wednesday (6/5/2026). The enforcement was carried out as part of upholding Depok City Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 5 of 2022, while also restoring the function of public facilities. Head of Satpol PP Depok, Dede Hidayat, stated that the clearance was conducted firmly but with a humane approach. “This clearance is a firm yet humane step to enforce regulations and restore the function of public facilities,” Dede said, quoted from the official Depok City Government website. More than 60 combined personnel were deployed in the operation, consisting of Satpol PP, Transportation Department, Depok Metro Police Resort, Military District Command, ward officials, and other related authorities. Before the demolition, officers first provided persuasive advisories to building owners and vendors to ensure the process ran smoothly. “Officers first evacuated residents’ belongings, then proceeded with dismantling the illegal structures built on public facilities,” he said. In the clearance, officers deployed one excavator unit as well as manual equipment such as crowbars and picks. The results of the clearance included 17 illegal buildings and PKL stalls in RT 03 and RT 04, RW 06 areas. The demolished structures consisted of permanent flower shops, coffee stalls, warteg eateries, and empty buildings erected on sidewalks and drainage channels. “The ultimate goal is to restore the function of roads, sidewalks, and water channels so they can be used as intended,” he concluded.
