Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Domestic food security has now become the government’s primary focus, no less important than export standards. KKP assesses that the challenges in the domestic market are even more complex.

The long supply chain and the dominance of SME actors make supervision difficult. Therefore, an integrated and consistent system is needed.

Acting Secretary General of KKP Andy Artha Donny Oktopura explained the steps taken by the government.

“We are building a domestic food security system from upstream to distribution,” he said at the Food Summit 2026 CNBC Indonesia forum themed “Indonesia Food Safety Urgency: Towards a New Policy Framework” in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026).

This system covers production certification, processing, to distribution. All stages must meet the established standards.

“We are improving the certification system upstream, in processing, to distribution,” Andy stated.

KKP is also partnering with local governments and business actors to ensure effective implementation. Collaboration is the main key.

“We are working with local governments and business actors to implement this system,” he explained.

In addition to supervision, education for the public is also a priority. Changing mindsets is considered important in maintaining food quality.

“We must start seeing that what’s important is not just cheap prices, but also food security,” Andy revealed.

This step is expected to improve the quality of consumption for Indonesian society. Not only sufficient in quantity, but also safe and healthy.

In the future, KKP is optimistic that this system will address various challenges in the domestic food sector. Security standards will be tightened further.

“Hopefully, the fishery products consumed by the public are truly safe and of quality,” he concluded.
