From Tteokbokki to Ramyeon, Korean Food Gains Indonesian Market, Halal Certification Pursued
Korean food has attracted a great deal of attention in the Indonesian market, driven partly by the K-Drama wave which frequently showcases the culinary variety of the ginseng nation. Many Korean product shopping centres are now emerging across Indonesia, making it easier for the public to find various Korean food products. Enthusiasm for K-Food was evident at 23 Paskal Shopping Center in Bandung during a halal Korean agro-food exhibition last weekend. The event, at one of Bandung’s representative shopping complexes, involved six major importers of Korean agro-food products in Indonesia and succeeded in drawing significant consumer attention by introducing tteokbokki, ramyeon, beverages, and new products that have obtained halal certification. The event was a collaboration between South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia. aT Jakarta Director Shin Dong-hee said he witnessed firsthand the high popularity of Korean agro-food products synergised with K-Culture. To introduce safe and healthy Korean agro-food products to the Indonesian public, he stated the corporation will strive for more Korean food products to obtain halal certification. The company is also committed to expanding the distribution reach of Korean food products to various regional areas, not limited to just Jakarta and Bandung.
